Unmasking the ties of snake bite poisoning and COVID-19

Abstract Background Snake bite envenoming is a neglected tropical disease with variable clinical presentation, neurotoxic manifestations (respiratory paralysis), rhabdomyolysis, cardiotoxicity, autonomic hyperactivity, and/or coagulation abnormalities. There limited data on the course of envenomation in an incidentally diagnosed COVID-19 patient. Case presentation A 17-year-old male history snake and neuroparalysis developed shortness breath. He was treated lyophilized polyvalent anti-snake venom (ASV) admission emergency department mechanical ventilation. Subsequently, he tested positive for infection. No immunomodulatory therapy administered, patient extubated 5th day ICU without any neurological deficit. Conclusions Coinfections severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus poisoning lead to diagnostic dilemmas controversies management practices. Abnormalities need be cautiously addressed, cause development pneumonia needs identified. The rapid recovery our case theoretically can explained organ-protective potential snake-derived peptides; large series however needed prove same.
